Every since the arrival of Air Asia, a budget airline to Kota Kinabalu, many backpackers have added Kota Kinabalu City to their list of destinations. With the arrival of the ever increasing backpackers all over the world, more and more Bed and Breakfast or budget hostels have been set up in and around Kota Kinabalu to cater for the budget conscious travellers.
Clean, tidy, informative, and friendly stuffs are what travellers come to expect from budget hostels, and Akinabalu Youth Hostel, does possess most of the criterion above. Located on Gaya Street, the oldest street in Kota Kinabalu, Akinabalu Youth Hostel also has easy access to the many points of interest in Kota Kinabalu.
A spacious lounge area with a long window that looks out to Gaya Street is what best described this hostel living area. On the other side of the room, there is this little fountain garden next to the registration counter that looks out to the Akitson Clock Tower.
Guests staying at Akinabalu Youth Hostel can just walk down and have a taste of good food at the many kopitiams that are doing smashing business along Gaya Street. Great noodle shops, local flavour like Laksa and Ngau Chap (beef noodle) and "Bak Kut Teh" are just some of the must try food.
Every Sunday, Gaya Street will be turned into a market area that sells many interesting produces and goods from the local traders. Gaya street is often brightened up on the many important occasions, like Christmas, Chinese New Year, and City Day.
