Located at the ground floor of Wisma Sabah, Sutera Sanctuary Lodges manages many of the accommodations, like chalets, lodges, hostel, and resthouse, for Sabah Parks. Places that come under the management of Sutera Sanctuary Lodges are Kinabalu Park, Laban Rata Resthouse, Mesilau Nature Resorts, Poring Hot Spring, and Manukan Island Resort.
Climbers who wish to climb Mt. Kinabalu, must secure a bed at any of the following resthouses: Laban Rata Resthouse, Gunting Lagadan Hut, Waras Hut, or Panar Laban Hut. Permit to climb Mt. Kinabalu will only be issued by Sabah Park when one has secured a bed on the day of climb. These places are heavily booked throughout the year, it is advisable to book six months ahead to avoid any disappointment.
Kinabalu Park also has lodges and hostels for those people who just want to enjoy the cool mountain air and peaceful environment. One can easily spend a day or two to explore the many trials around the park, and check out the fauna and flora of Kinabalu park.
Mesilau Nature Resort has an unique forest setting unlike any other, as the resort is literally built into the forest, with the minimum felling of trees. Tall trees can be seen right at the door step of the many lodges in Mesilau nature Resort.
Most climbers will come to Poring Hot Spring after conquering the Majestic Mt. Kinabalu. Soaking at the sulphur enriched hot spring of Poring is an ideal antidot for smoothing the aching legs of the many climbers. Hostels and Lodges are available for rental.
For the sun and beach lover one can plan to stay at the Manukan Island Resort. Manukan Island is only about 15 minutes by boat from Kota Kinabalu jetties. Manukan Island, with its crystal clear water and corals, is a great place for snorkelling and scuba diving and many species of tropical fish can be seen here. Or one can just laze away at the white sandy beaches of Manaukan Island.

Pingback: beautifulkk.com | Kinabalu Park Headquaters
Selamat Pagi My wife and I are coming to the park on Sunday July 13 or Monday July 14 to stay for 1 night with the intention of going bird watching. Can you suggest some high quality accommodation for either of these nights where good trails are present? Regards Ian Stewart PS We are staying at the Tanjung Aru Resort in KK.
Cool.. if your intention is bird watching, the best place to stay would be inside the Park. Kinabalu Park HQ lodges, or Mesilau Nature Resort, are both built near the forest, Mesilau Nature Resort is right in it. Kinabalu Park Headquaters area has more trails compare to Mesilau. These two are top end accommodation at the surrounding area at Kinabalu.
Me and my friends, we climbed Mount Kinabalu two weeks ago, and I would like to make some remarks about the Sutera´s arrangement.
We booked through Sutera and they informed us about the prices and prices related condition, but they did not even mention that many other things that are not convenient for them: there are additional fees as the tour guide, the entrance to the park, or the insurance, that nearly doubled the price that they gave us. We just realized when we arrived to the park.
The packed lunch that they give you for the first day, when you have been walking for more that 4 hours is shameful: sandwiches consisting in bread and a little piece of chicken or cheese, an uneatable piece of chicken and an egg.
Once you arrived to Laban Rata, we have to wait for more than 30 minutes for hot water to take a shower.
Regarding dinner, the buffet finished just half an hour after the time that we arrived, so we had to eat very quickly.
On the second day, when we wake up at 2am to keep walking to summit, we discovered that we did not have breakfast included. They just include your breakfast at 7am, once you have already come back form the summit, but they did not tell you anything until you arrived there.
Once we came back to the headquarters, to had lunch in the Balsam Restaurant, they were nearly closing, as it finished at 4pm. We have to claim the waiters to give us some more food. Again, I would like to highlight that Sutera did not mention anything about the times in their conditions.
Regarding the guide, he was not a good guide. He did not speak English, he did not talk to us in the whole trip, he was not taking care of us, as he was supposed to do. One of us became sick and dizzy when we were reaching the summit, and were not able to find him, so, 4 of us, we had to come back down without any help. Three hours later, we found him in the check point. We did not feel safe and protected going with him.
I think the money that you paid is too expensive for the service provided, and it does not get the quality that you expected.
I hope my opinion will help others visitors to the park and would make Sutera change their conditions.
Well, I have to admit that it is not Sutera Sanctuary’s duty to inform their customers about anything out of their scope, as they only operate the accommodation and F&B. I feel sorry for what Elena and friends have encountered. I think Elena & friends had overlooked the climb itinerary, too.
Anyway, I have to say Sutera should give better service, or to be replaced, but problem is: they monopoly the whole business.
On the other hand, the national park is operate by Sabah Parks. They charge for entrance fee, climbing insurance, tour guide, etc.
These would be helpful:

Or

Regarding the service provided by the Sabah Parks, I think Elena should send them a letter of enquiry/complain directly. As beautifulkk.com is not a complaint bureau.
Thank you for your advice and the useful links.
I have already send the complain to Sutera but, of course, they have not answered me.
By the way, I think that my experience could be useful for any other people planning to travel to M.Kinabalu, that why i post it in this web.
Thank Elena; your experience shared in this comment would greatly help other travellers who read this blog.
