Baba Nyonya is a special group of people who has their origin traced back from the time when the great Admiral Cheng Ho of China sailed through the Malay penisular some six centuries ago. The inter-marriage of the Chinese sailors and the local Malay, whom we referred as Baba and Nyonya, started a new culture and heritage, and they also created the delicious Baba Nyonya cuisine. Baba Nyonya cuisine is a sort of fusion between the Chinese cuisine and the local Malay delicacy. The Cottage Hotel

November 26, 2008 By: olombon Category: Accommodation, Budget Hotel

The Cottage Hotel will be celebrating its first anniversary in the coming month, and it is still working hard to establish itself as a major player among the other hotels and resorts in and around Kundasang. Travellers normally will not notice this rather new hotel, as it is not built beside the Tuaran to Ranau road. Located about 1km away from Kundasang Town, and along the small road that leads to the Mesilau Resort, The Cottage Hotel is nestled right in the heartland of the Kundasang farming communities. This location allows guests at The Cottage Hotel an overview of the beautiful vegetable farm lands below, as well as the scared Mt. Kinabalu above, together with its jagged peaks. The year round temperature at night is around 18 degrees Celsius.

November 14, 2008 By: olombon Category: Accommodation, Kundasang, Lodge

Just 500 metres away from the entrance of Kinabalu Park Headquarters, D’Villa Rina Ria Lodge is the nearest lodge outside Kinabalu Park, and with rooms price three times lower than those chalets and lodges inside Kinabalu Park. This is good enough reason to attract visitors. D’Villa Rina Ria Lodge was built in the year 1992, and it is also one of the first lodges to be built around Kinabalu National Park. Kinabalu National Park became a World Heritage site in 2000, and is also the first World Heritage site in Malaysia. In August 2008 a new management has taken over the day to day running of D’Villa Rina Ria Lodge. Since then the lodge has been refurnished, up graded and repainted. One of the improved results is that guests will be greeted with the many sweet colours of the new paint work.
