Note: Nabalu Lodge is under serious renovation, the lodge will reopen in 2011.
Less than 100 metres away from the busy Kundasang Market, and with the beautiful Mt. Kinabalu as the back drop, lies this simple and cosy budget accommodation called Nabalu Lodge. Travellers will have no problems looking for it, as it is situated just next to the KK – Sandakan road. The Nabalu Lodge has just 16 rooms for rent, and the rooms are divided into six different types. The room rate starts from a very affordable RM 65 to a rather standard price of RM 150. Add in RM 20 to the room rate, and breakfast will be included.

All the rooms at Nabalu Lodge have a simple and clean design. There are no fancy design, and each room has a ceiling fan, not like one needs it much. The night time temperature at Kundasang on average drops to a range of 20 to 18 degrees Celsius. Good quality mattresses are used here, and a wardrobe is provided. Each room also comes with an attached washroom, which includes (a must have) hot shower and toilet.

For food and beverage the Nabalu Cafe Lodge’s menu comes with a rather impressed range of selection, as it is not a big restaurant. Western, Chinese and local delight, like Nasi Lemak, are all available. The most popular dinner speciality at Kundasang is the steamboat. Three types of Steamboat selections are available namely mini steam boat (RM 19), nabalu steam boat (RM 38), and family steam boat (RM 25 per pax). The steam boat has food like vegetables, meats, and seafood, where guests need to cook the food themselves, and guests can choose between Tom Yam soup or Chicken soup. These soups are a great way to warming up the body temperature against the cold surroundings. Check out the out door cafe under the tree next to the main restaurant, this is a good place to relax, enjoy the weather, and sip up a hot cup of tea. From here one can see the nearby busy vegetable markets, which continues with the farmland in the valley below, and of course the magnificent Mount Kinabalu above.
Near by interesting places to explore are Mt. Kinabalu, Kundasang Town, Kundasang War Memorial Park’,Poring Hot Spring, Sabah Tea Garden, and Moroli River (Fish Therapy). For other hotels at Kundasang, click here.
How to get here? All buses to Ranau and Sandakan will pass by Kundasang. Since Nabalu Lodge is right beside the road, hop off the bus and Nabalu Lodge will be right in front. Bus station is located near the Kota Kinabalu town padang. Taxi is also available near KK town padang.

I thinking to stay at Nabalu lodge, may i know the transportation as we will take bus to Kudasang. Is there any transport/ taxi to ride us to Kota Kinabalu Park/ Poring Hot Spring?I appreciate for your advise.
Bus from KK to Kundasang is RM 15 one way, leaving daily at 8:30 am from town padang. Many buses, and coaches pass through Kundasang to Kinabalu Park, this part is easy, and for Poring take a bus to Ranau Town and from there you can use mini bus. Nabalu Lodge should be able to help.

Hi, 4 of us are planning to visit Mount Kinabalu next month. How do you compare Nabalu Lodge with Kinabalu Pine Resort and Kinable Rose Cabin and D’Villa Rina Ria Lodge? We are looking for value for money accomodation without sacrificing comfort and convenience and must have good view or surrounding. Also, may I know if there’s any coaches from KK airport to Kundasang and its rate? Thnks !
On good view of Kundasang and Mt. Kinabalu, comfort and convenience, there are really not many places can beat Kinabalu Pine Resort. The price there is only about RM 40 more compared with the others. Which airport will you be arriving in, KKIA, or Terminal 2?
Hai, i would like to know also about the coaches from KK airport to Kundasang. I will go KK in this coming july and i thinking can direct departure to kundasang as i will arrive at KK in the morning (KKIA, Terminal 2) .
can i have brocure for the new the 2010 nabalu lodge? i know the lodge under construction last year (2009).
They are still not ready for business yet, I was at Kundasang last Sunday. They should be ready by middle of the year.
Dear Olombon,

Can u give me the Panorama Resort Website.. Someone incharges there phone number..? I already contact the email person but no one reply me.. thanks for the cooperation..
Dear Olombon, It seems interesting place to stay….but i’m a little bit curious whether the restaurant got these ‘Halal” certificate. i was inform it’s quite difficult to get nearest muslim food court there. correct me if i’m wrong…tq
Nabalu Lodge would not open until the middle of this year, they are still under renovation. As of “halal” certificate, I really don’t know. Most of the lodge’s restaurants in Kundasang have a sign said “Served No Pork”. Or you can visit the restaurants in Kundasang town which are run by Muslim owners.
hi…i’m searching a place to stay for my June trip..is Nabalu Lodge is still under renovation?
Nabalu Lodge advertises that they should be ready by middle of this year. The last time I was there in January, they are not ready yet. I’ll be up to Kundasang next week, will let you know then.
oloombon or Nabalu Lodge, this coming 10th of june maybe i would like to choose among yours lodge to stay for a nite after visiting the kinabalu park, just need to know more details about each type of room:
How many beds provided for each type of room?
How much people can stay in for each type of room?
If let say i got 14 people (backpackers) in a group, instead of Nabalu Lodge, which place is most suitable for us to stay? we prefer nice scenery surroundings, nice breakfast, stay together if can that’s all.
I don’t know is Nabalu Lodge has opened for business yet, because it haa a serious renovation going on since last year. Though it should be completing soon. If you guys are backpackers I suggest D’Villa Lodge which is just 800 meter from Kinabalu Park. No Mt. Kinabalu view here, but they do have a porch that can seats 14 persons (all of you can have breakfast together), and have a great view over the Bundu Tuhan valley. D’Villa Lodge has two dormitory rooms so should be able to fit in every one.
Hi.. Is Nabalu Lodge ready for reservations? Do they have any website that i can view3?
Thanks
Apple
Just call Nabalu Lodge today. The lodge won’t be ready until next year (2011) I was told.
would like to know if there are bookings on 13/8 and 14/8? if yes, how much for a family of 4… 2adults and 2 kids… how far is it from the national park?
Nabalu Lodge won’t be opened until 2011.
Hi Olombon, how do you compare Kinabalu Pine Resort, Philip Garden Chalet, Celyn Resort and Zen Garden? Is there resort or hotel where they have fire place using wood burning for heater? We are looking for value for money accomodation without sacrificing comfort and convenience and kitchen and must have good view or surrounding.
Hi Leslie, if you are looking for fire place then you need to look at chalets run by Sutera Sanctuary Lodges. Check with them if the fire place in these chalets are still in used. These chalets are located inside the park. Chalets at Mesilau Nature Resort also have fire place. It is a wonderful experience to burn wood for heat, I used to do that years ago. Those where the times when a bundle of fire wood only cost RM 10.
Olombon, Thanks you for your reply. I will enquiry from them for the fire place. I used to experience in Pemberton – Perth. Indeed is a wonderful experience. It cost a lot for Mesilau and Sutera. I will look for other chalet and give wood type heater a miss. Any other suggestion for lodge and chalet? I have 3 adult and 3 children (age 5-8) Anyway, thanks for sharing. It must be very expensive for the fire wood these days. I saw some comment there will be a lot of fries at Mt KK, is it? How about dinner at Mt KK? I was advise to have dinner at where we stay as it is very dark outside and is dangerous to wonder around at night as is very dark.
Hi Leslie, I like Kinabalu Pine Resort, great view, nice garden, and a well run restaurant. I shall go and check out the newly opened Dream World Resort next week. I don’t feel Kundasang area, where most of the lodges and resorts at, as a dangerous place at night, been out there many times, so far no bad incident. Flies are every way at Kundasang, like the Australian outback, people need to understand that the whole area is big farm land. Anyway most big restaurants have insect netting.
Where is Dream World Resort located? Is it cold at night? How is the scenery there and landscape there? I will be appreciate if you can share with us your experience of the newly opened Dream World Resort next week including all the contact for reservation, room rates, restaurant menu and some photo. Finally, many many thanks again for sharing your great view and info of Kundasang with us and really provide me with a lot inspiration to visit Kundasang for all the interesting places.
