Sutera Sanctuary Lodges 2009

Located at the ground floor of Wisma Sabah, Sutera Sanctuary Lodges manages many of the accommodations, like chalets, lodges, hostel, and resthouse, for Sabah Parks. Places that come under the management of Sutera Sanctuary Lodges are Kinabalu Park, Laban Rata Resthouse, Mesilau Nature Resorts,Poring Hot Spring, and Manukan Island Resort.

Climbers who wish to climb Mt. Kinabalu, must secure a bed at any of the following resthouses: Laban Rata Resthouse, Gunting Lagadan Hut, Waras Hut, or Panar Laban Hut. Permit to climb Mt. Kinabalu will only be issued by Sabah Park when one has secured a bed on the day of climb. These places are heavily booked throughout the year, it is advicible to book six months ahead to avoid any disappointment.

Kinabalu Park also has lodges and hostels for those people who just want to enjoy the cool mountain air and peaceful environment. One can easily spend a day or two to explore the many trials around the park, and check out the fauna and flora of Kinabalu park.

Mesilau Nature Resort has an unique forest setting unlike any other, as the resort is literally built into the forest, with the minimum felling of trees. Tall trees can be seen right at the door step of the many lodges in Mesilau nature Resort.

Most climbers will come to Poring Hot Spring after conquering the Majestic Mt. Kinabalu. Soaking at the sulphur enriched hot spring of Poring is an ideal antidot for smoothing the aching legs of the many climbers. Hostels and Lodges are available for rental.

For the sun and beach lover one can plan to stay at the Manukan Island Resort. Manukan Island is only about 15 minutes by boat from Kota Kinabalu jetties. Manukan Island, with its crystal clear water and corals, is a great place for snorkelling and scuba diving and many species of tropical fish can be seen here. Or one can just laze away at the white sandy beaches of Manaukan Island.

Hi,Guys! Why is the SSL can be so cruel to us ? Don’t they realised that many of our travellers are dissappointed and forced to change their plan due to the redicullous rate of all SSL Lodges. Maybe i can give them some suggestion here. Please change the writing ” LEAVE NOTHING BUT FOOTPRINT, TAKE NOTHING BUT PHOTO ” to ” LEAVE NOTHING BUT DISSAPOINTMENT, TAKE NOTHING BUT ANGER & DEBTS ” at all the visitors attraction under SSL .

  2. olombon says:

I suggest the guests to stay at the other hotels and resorts at Kundasang. They have much cheaper rooms rate compare with Sutera Sanctuary Lodges.

  3. murmur says:

it is seriously very expensive and unreasonable. AND they don’t even allow you to pitch a tent!

  4. olombon says:

Please write to http://www.sabahtourism.com about this, hopefully the rate will come down. And in the meantime check out the others nearby hotels at Kundasang.

  5. Garfield says:

ya, i also definitely disagree with the rates and charges… as compare RM34 per bed at Rabanrata at my last climb in 2003 to RM330 per bed now with the additional 4meals included.. we as climbers would like free and easy package rather than they fix our meals with the unreasonable PRICES.. really hope Sabah tourism board can do something on this…

  6. RObin says:

i dont know, maybe the local government leaders has some shares with SSL..mayb lots of it

  7. dooman says:

I just cancelled my Mt. Kinabalu climb for next year. Unreasonable prices… ridiculuous!

  8. Jessica says:

I was thinking of going up Mt KK again. I took a glimpse at the current rates to Climb Mt KK and stay at the National Park. It has became very costly. If i’m not mistaken my climb up Mt KK in year 2002 was like half the price as it is now… very disappointed.
