If you are one of those travellers who need budget, cheap, or simply basic accommodation around Kinabalu Park Headquarters, then Mountain Resthouse will be a perfect place for you. Located just 300 metres away from the entrance of Kinabalu Park, Mountain Resthouse has the cheapest bed for rental in Kundasang and the Resthouse caters especially for the budget conscious backpackers. The rest house is partially hidden by trees and plants from the main road, and it is built on a sloppy hill that over look the Bundu Tuhan farming community. Mt. Kinabalu is completely hidden by the hill behind the rest house. Temperature here ranges from 19°C to 17°C at night. Mountain Resthouse has been in operation for almost a decade now.
This rest house consists of two wooden buildings that run parallel to each other, with one on a higher ground. Room One, two family rooms and a kitchen at the corner make up the lower building. Room One has a queen bed with an attached bathroom, and this is the only bathroom in Mountain Resthouse that has hot shower facility. The family room has a queen bed and a bunk-bed, that can sleep four. Both the family rooms have their own attached bathroom. The kitchen would come in handy for guests who want to do some simple cooking themselves. Facilities here are very limited, a gas stove, some fried pans, and pots are the only cooking tools provided.
The upper building consists of six small rooms with three to four beds each. Most of the rooms has a configuration of two bunk beds on either side of the walls. All the guests here will have to share a common washroom, with a men and women section, adjacent to this building. Each section has a toilet and a shower room. The only downside is this washroom which is a concrete building is sightly tilted, so some basic skill of balancing is needed when one wants to use the washroom.

Mountain Resthouse does not have a cafe or restaurant, but guests can walk just 300 metres to the entrance of Kinabalu Park Headquarters for an affordable, nice and clean restaurant. This restaurant serves Chinese, local and some Western food. English breakfast is at RM 12 per set. Transportation to this rest house is very easy as all major buses and coaches to and from Kota Kinabalu will have to pass by here.
Near-by interesting places to explore are Mt. Kinabalu, Kundasang Town, Desa Cattle Farm, Kundasang War Memorial, Poring Hot Spring, Raffelsia flower area, Sabah Tea Garden, and Moroli River (Fish Therapy). For other accommodations at Kundasang, click here.
How to get there? Just take any buses or coaches to Mt. Kinabalu, Mountian Resthouse is just a mere 300 metre down from the entrance of Kinabalu Park Headquarters.

hi,thank you for your comment on our motel. Theres some correction here ;-
we have altogether 16 rooms.3 doublebed rooms at Rm60 namely room1,2 and room 13th with bathroom attached.
and 3 family rooms for 4 persons at Rm70 namely room 14,15 and 16 with attached bathroom and hot shower
10 rooms dorms type with common bath good for 40 persons.
our rate for dorm is Rm20 perperson ( most of the time rooms are non-sharing )
all rates are off-peak rates
and our common toilet floor are in the process of renovation due to mountain spring water source running down under the building causing it ti tilt but its 100% safe.
very nice place,,,,,,,one day wil be enjoy stay there…
The price given by francis for family room is misleading. For family room with hot shower, here it states RM70 but francis quoted me RM80 instead.
to flowerpower,we actually have 6 family room not 2 as reported. with bathroom attached ,some with hot water some’s not. not all customers wants hot water .so our rate differ but negotiable ,family room starts from rm60 to rm80 thats also can be bargain just to pleased customer , no problem on our pricing
