Winho Lodge

There are not many backpackers' hostels in downtown Sandakan. For the time being there are only four. Winho Lodge nestled in the heart of Sandakan town offers budget and clean lodging for travellers. Its location also provides easy access to public transport, eatery, banking and shopping area. Located at a fifty year old building which was built after the Second World War, this building was used as a storage area for a sundry company called Chung Kwong until recently. In 2008 after a major renovation Winho Lodge took over the third and fourth floor of the building and converted them into a budget lodge with 23 rooms that can accommodate up to 80 persons. The staffs are friendly and the manager, Mr.Lai, is also very helpful with tours information.

The balconies of both levels are turned into a lobby and a kitchen, which is on the fourth floor. The five dormitory rooms here have three bunk beds in a room and each room has an air-conditioner. Winho Lodge also has comfortable private rooms for two and a few family rooms that can sleep four. Both the private room and family room have attached washroom. The washroom are clean and basic. Even the common washrooms are equipped with a hot and cold water shower.
