While our ancestors had good knowledge of the plants and flowers in the country side, most of us have grown up with very little idea, if not none at all, and we are also very much unaware of the plants kingdom, and staying in the cities does not help either. A visit down to the Tenom Agriculture Park not only helps us to recover some of the long lost knowledge but also helps us to gain valuable tips on setting up a garden, be it large or small. Covering an area of more than 200 hectares, this botanic jewel features an impressive variety of flora. The flowers and plants here are arranged into many gardens, just the ornamental garden alone has in itself 21 themed gardens.

Rainforest Discovery Centre

The best place in Sandakan to come and learn about forest and nature.

After paying a visit to the famous Sepilok Orang-Utan Rehabilitation Centre or while waiting for the feeding time in the afternoon, one can always turn into the Rainforest Discovery Centre (RDC) which is about 1km away. This is a great new addition to the Sandakan tourist destinations. Set within the Kabili-Sepilok Forest Reserve, Rainforest Discovery Centre is a huge place. The main attractions here are the canopy walk, the plant discovery garden and the forest trails. Bird lovers will have an extra incentive to visit, three towers that mushroom up to the top of the canopy giving visitors a spectacular view over the surrounding tree tops. Huge canopy walkway on equal height with the trees allows photographers to choose the perfect spot to capture that unique picture of exotic birds of Borneo (with some luck).

Zen Garden Resort

One of the biggest resort in Kundasang.

Botanical Garden (Lok Kawi Wildlife Park, 2009)

The Botanical Garden at Lok Kawi Wildlife Park is an excellent place to have picnic, and spend a relaxed afternoon with friends.

Botanical Garden at the far end of the Lok Kawi Wildlife Park is an excellent place to have picnic, and spend a relaxed afternoon with friends. A short walk from the entrance of the Botanical Garden, after passing the Ginger garden, and the Nepenthes Garden, visitors will come to a small area that has six nicely built huts. Tall trees of various species, 30 to 50 feet high, surround these huts. These tall trees also help to filter out most of the sunlight, and only friendly light is allowed to come in, making the temperature at this area much to the delight of the park visitors. The sound from a small stream, with clean and clear water, can be heard running through the area which makes this place even more serene and peaceful. At times the scent or aroma of herbs and plants from the therapeutic garden can be smelt too.

Sabah Tea Garden

A visit to the only ogranic Tea Garden in Sabah.

One of Sabah most recognized products and always a gem as a souvernir or gift is no doubt the famous Sabah Tea. Mostly wrapped in green package with Mount Kinabalu as its background, Sabah Tea can be bought in tea bags or plain simple tea leaf. Besides as gift Sabah Tea is also served in many of the cafes and restaurants in hotels and resorts around Sabah. A visit to Sabah Tea Garden will give guests a more inside knowledge on how these teas are farmed, haversted and processed.
