Sarangnova

December 09, 2009 By: olombon Category: Accommodation, Hotel

Sarangnova is, a newly opened hotel, located right at the heart of the old Gaya Street. The name Sarangnova simply means bird’s nest and stars. This hotel has an unique theme which showcases the birds of Borneo, especially those that are endemic to Sabah. A total of 26 rooms are available at this hotel, and each of the room is designed with a special bird, and no room is alike. These birds with their colourful feathers also help to create different displays, colour schemes, and special effects for each room. Guests can choose to stay at a particular room that they like, or stay in different rooms each time they visit Sarangnova. Some of the birds that grace the rooms are the White Fronted Falconet, Bornean Bristlehead, Black & Crimson Pitta, and Rhinoceros Hornbill. These bird pictures were taken by the well known Sandakan photographer and conservationist, Cede Prudente. (more…)

January 28, 2009 By: olombon Category: Sandakan, Tour Package, West Coast

Sabah formerly known as North Borneo is the wildlife destination of South East Asia, and the Kinabatangan River area is known to have the highest concentration of wildlife in Borneo, Malaysia. Sabah is also home to the extremely cute Orang Utans, and the very unique Proboscis monkeys. Last December some 60 diplomats from around the world voted Sabah as the best tourist destination in Malaysia. These votes do speak volume, and finally the world has come to recognise Sabah as a top tourist destination.

To visit all the tourist destinations of Sabah, one will probably need a month to do so. If time does not permit below is a seven day itinerary tour programme by Wildlife Expedition, which combines the best of west and east coast of Sabah. Guest will travel by air, canoe, boat, and coach to reach various interesting places.  The followings are excerpts from a Wildlife Expedition brochure.

Sandwiched between the Signal Hill and Likas Sport Complex, lies this wonderful piece of wetland that has been gazetted as a state Cultural Heritage Site since 1998. Formerly known as Kota Kinabalu Bird Sanctuary, now it has been renamed Kota Kinabalu Wetland Centre, which is a 24 hectare remnant patch of once extensive mangrove forest in this coastal city.
