Without a doubt, Secret Recipe is the most successful local restaurant in Malaysia. To date it has well over 100 oulets in various parts of Malaysia. In Kota Kinabalu alone there are three outlets. Other than Malaysia, Secret Recipe can also be found in six other cities in the Asia Pacific region. These cities include Bangkok, Jakarta, Karachi, Manila, Singapore, and Shanghai. Over the years many newspapers and magazines sang praises and gave good reviews on Secret Recipe. Here are some of them: “Successfully captured the hearts of many Malaysians.”- The Edge, “Tempted to order all the cakes you see in Secret Recipe.” - Singapore Press Holding, “Highly recommended as the best cheese cake in Kuala Lumpur.” - BK Bangkok Magazine and “Noted for their fine cheese cakes.” - Star Metro. In the year 2000 The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, in short Coffee Bean, opened it’s first outlet in Damai Commercial Centre and it is also the first branded cafe company to establish itself in Kota Kinabalu. KK Lites response to the then new Coffee Bean Damai was overwhelming, for the next six months every night whether inside or outdoor the cafe was always packed with people. Since then KK Lites get to know new terms like Mocha, Iced Blended, Latte, and Expresso very well. Today other cafe brands like Starbucks, Oldtown, The Old Station Kopitiam and San Francisco have expanded their operation into Kota Kinabalu, and the crowds at Coffee Bean Damai has calmed down, and finding a table is so much easier nowadays.

Tenom Station is a new cafe at City Mall. This cafe is named after the famous Tenom train station which was first opened to the public in 1905. To date Sabah is still the only place that has a railway system in the whole of Borneo. Sabah traditional coffee and the Colonial food are the specialities at Tenom Station. And the interior of this classic cafe has some details that resemble the old Tenom train station. The coffee powder used in this cafe comes direct from Sabah’s most famous coffee plantations in the interior town of Tenom.
