Sulug Island

Located at the southern most tip of the Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, and furthest from the Kota Kinabalu city coastline, Sulug Island is the least visited islands in this marine park. Sulug Island is also the second smallest in this islands grouping, with an area of just 20 acres. Gazetted into the Tunku Abdul Rahman Park in 1979, Sulug island has remained more or less the same, since there is completely no development here. Compare with the near by Manukan and Mamutik island which have all the essential human comfort like restaurant, canteen, souvenir counter, toilet, and shower area, Sulug island has none at all. What you see at Sulug island is nature at its best. It is also the only island in Tunku Abdul Rahman Park with no entrance fee.

Mamutik Island

Most travellers to Kota Kinabalu will not miss the chance to enjoy a good day of sand, sea and sun on the marine park just off the coast of Kota Kinabalu city. Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park consists of five islands altogether. The largest being Gaya Island, while Mamutik is the smallest island in the group. Meanwhile Manukan Island, Sapi Island and Sulug Island make up the rest of the marine park. Mamutik island has an area of 60,000 square metres and shapes like a triangle.

Compare to Manukan and Sapi, Mamutik is the least crowded, yet it offers almost everything the other two have. Mamutik Island is also very close to the Sabah mainland, just about 3km. If one departs from the Tanjung Aru Beach Hotel jetty, the speed boat ride is just five minutes or less at times. Once arrived at the Mamutik Island’s jetty, schools of fish can be seen crowded around the jetty. Being a great host they seem to welcome all the visitors to have fun and a relaxed time on this beautiful tropical island.

Mantanani Island

Sun bathing on a quiet powdery white sandy beach, while enjoying the gentle breeze of the tropical island, and looking out at a big blue sea that stretches to the horizon, which yields almost no sign of human civilisation, one has surely arrived at the beautiful Mantanani Island, one of the best keep secrets on the west coast of Sabah. Only recently promote as a tourists destination, Mantanani Island has miles and miles of unspoiled beaches, and the shallow coast line around the island offers a splendid snorkelling experience, with visibility around10 metre, a wide variety of tropical marines life are easily spotted on the extensive coral reef habitats.
